I've been playing Dota 6.59c for sometime now, and I am quite surprised that many players are still questioning how and why they die after a successful escape from a gank or clash of heroes. Many of them are saying, shouting, cursing, etc.. about the lag, delay, bugs or cheats of some sort.

The truth about it is that they activated an item that makes them suffer or loose their HP, which is the mask of madness.

Did you know that the mask of madness grants 17% life steal and allows you to go Berserk. The Berserk state adds 75% attack speed and 15% movement speed, but you take 20% extra damage at the end of duration based on the damage you took.

Basically you activated upon yourself a mini version of the maledict skill(Voljin/Witch Doctor skill). The more damage you took (after activating the mask of madness), the greater HP you will loose.

The previous Dota versions like 6.57b only makes your hero take more damage while in berserk mode just like Razor's 1st skill, the frenzy. Now on previous Dota versions like 6.59b and 6.59c, the damage toll will be after the berserk effect.

So the next time you activate your berserk mode, you may want to consider who's tanking the damage, or if somehow your up against a hero with a mask of madness activated, nuke him and he'll get the extra 20% damage later.
